Description
At first glance, you might not get the fuss about Yooperlite.
In regular daylight, it looks like a humble grey stone. It’s handsome in a simple, granite-like way, speckled with black and white. You might see it on a table and think, “That’s a nice, normal rock.”
But it’s all an act. This stone is hiding a fiery secret.
The magic happens when you turn off the lights and turn on a UV blacklight. The sphere completely transforms. Veins and speckles you didn’t even see before ignite with a brilliant, glowing, molten orange. It looks like a network of lava flows is trapped inside the rock, or like the last embers of a campfire burning in the dark. The effect is absolutely stunning.
The story behind them is cool, too. They were only discovered in 2017 by a man hunting for rocks at night with a UV light on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan. He named them after the locals of the Upper Peninsula—the “Yoopers.”
Because of this incredible, hidden glow, it’s become known as a stone of Truth and self-expression. It’s a powerful reminder that there’s often a brilliant, fiery energy hiding just beneath a calm surface, waiting for the right light to be seen.
